BARRE — The fledgling sister company of a Canadian environmental services firm has been quietly setting up shop in Barre since January and is ready to launch its operations on Metro Way during an open house Wednesday.
Gov. Peter Shumlin is scheduled to attend the noon ribbon-cutting for Accuworx USA — a Vermont corporation that Toronto-based Accuworx believes will facilitate its planned expansion into the U.S.
Both companies provide hazardous spill response and subsurface drilling, as well as aid in the redevelopment of “brownfields” and provide a range of remediation solutions for clients in the private and public sectors.
Accuworx USA will be based in Barre and run by Jeff Simone, according to Mayor Thomas Lauzon, who owns the former Rouleau Granite plant on Metro Way and recently completed renovating the 8,500 square feet he’ll be leasing to the company.
Simone has been working since January out of a Lauzon-owned building on South Main Street while renovations were underway. The company is expected to employ six people to start but hopes to expand to 15.
The company plans to house what Lauzon described as one of the largest “Vactors” in New England in Barre along with a couple of drill rigs and other cleanup equipment.
